SHELBY–Using a hefty first half lead the Oakridge boys basketball team held off the Shelby Tigers 59-48 in a WMC showdown on Friday evening.

Oakridge jumped out to a four point advantage over Shelby with a 11-7 scoring advantage after the first eight minutes of action..

The Eagles owned the second quarter as they overpowered the Tigers outscoring them 20-12 to build a solid 31-19 lead at halftime.

The scoring balanced out from both squads as the second half rolled on with the Eagles outscoring the Tigers 15-14 in the third quarter to take an 46-33 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Shelby held the upper hand in the final eight minutes outscoring Oakridge 15-13 but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Eagles.

Garrett Wever led Oakridge with a double-double, just two assists shy of a triple-double, racking up 24 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and four steals. 

Ethan Jozsa added 15 points and grabbed three rebounds while Hunter DeLora chipped in with 10 points and Peyton Ruel tossed in eight points and grabbed three rebounds.

Joseph led the offesnive attack for Shelby as he recorded a double-double with a game high 26 points and 10 rebounds while Wyatt Dickman chipped in with 10 points and four assists.

Oakridge moves to 6-8 and 3-6 in the WMC and will visit Western Michigan Christian on Tuesday to battle with the Warriors.

Shelby slides to 7-5 with a record of 6-4 in the WMC and is set to travel to Holton on Monday for non-league play.
