MUSKEGON — Western Michigan Christian’s varsity girls basketball team appears ready to roll into the postseason.

The Warriors improved to 14-4 overall and 8-1 in the Lakes Eight Activities Conference following their 59-24 win over rival Muskegon Catholic Central on Friday.

Kyla Wiersema had 25 points and eight rebounds for WMC, while Maddie Wiersema totaled a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds.

“Maddie is possessed right now,” said WMC coach Jeremy Goorman. “She is hungry for every rebound and it showed in the last two games with over 15 rebounds. Kyla is very consistent scoring every night. She is averaging almost 24 points per game.”

WMC plays its last regular-season game on Saturday against Manistee at home. The Warriors will then face either North Muksegon or Shelby in the district semifinals on Wednesday at Holton.

MCC was led by Katherine Rauch with 10 points and McKenna Gentry with four.

The Crusaders (8-11 overall, 4-6 Lakes Eight), host Fruitport Calvary Christian next Wednesday for their first district game.
