MUSKEGON — Orchard View unexpectedly found itself trailing visiting Manistee, 26-17 at the half of Friday night’s home game in the Lakes 8 Activities Conference.

But, the young Cardinals scrambled back. It was a gradual progression, as Orchard View battled the determined Chippewas, who gave ground grudgingly.

Orchard View outscored the Chippewas, who have struggled offensively all year, 14-8 to climb within three points of Manistee, 34-31 heading into the fourth period.

The Cardinals kept plugging away in the final eight minutes, fueled by senior Darius Williams who scored seven points in the fourth quarter, which included a 3 of 4 performance at the free throw line.

It was enough to drive the Cardinals to a 14-8 advantage in the fourth quarter for a thrilling, 45-42 victory over a scrappy Manistee.

Williams finished the game with 18 points to lead the Cardinals. Orchard View sophomore Stephon Oakes followed with five points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Orchard View improves to 4-13 overall and 2-8 in the Lakes 8. The Cardinals are next scheduled to see action on Tuesday at Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian.
