MARION — Down four points at halftime, the Pentwater girls basketball team felt good about its prospects in Monday night’s MHSAA Division 4 district at Marion, but then came the third period and that was the end.

Walkerville outscored the Falcons by nine in the third quarter, and they never recovered, and wound up losing, 49-37 to see their season end.

Even forced to foul the Wildcats, and take other chances, the Falcons managed to get within one point in the fourth quarter. But they couldn’t make it all the way back.

Walkerville took a narrow 6-5 edge at the end of the first quarter, and outscored the Falcons, 11-8 in the second to extend its lead to four points, 17-13 at the half.

Then came that third quarter, when the Wildcats had an 18-9 advantage to go into the third quarter up, 35-22. Pentwater finished the game with a 15-14 edge in the final eight minutes.

Haidyn Adams paced the Falcons with 16 points. Mikaylyn Kenney had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Yamora Yamaguchi had a game-high 22 points for the Wildcats.

Pentwater finished the season 3-16, while Walkerville improved to 11-8 and advances to the next round Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Marion against the Eagles.
