While the Eagles have been to the state semifinals before, this is the Ventures’ first trip to the Breslin Center.

After sprinting out to a 14-2 start in their quarterfinal contest against Reese on Tuesday night, and maintaining a double figure lead through three quarters, things got a bit sticky in the fourth quarter.

Reese still trailed by 16, 37-21 late in the final period before charging back, going to a full-court press which forced some turnovers and started to close the gap with a 10-0 run.

Bishop Foley held off that rally, but Reese wasn’t finished, mounting another run to close to within two, 45-43 with 1:49 left in the game.

The Ventures drew on their past experience to pull away for a 55-48 win.

Senior co-captain Melanie Moore led the way for Bishop Foley down the stretch, scoring six points. She ended the game with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

Alyssa Samartino contributed 17 points while Ryan Moore netted seven points.
