FLORIDA — The Muskegon Community College women’s softball program kept rolling along on its competition in Florida on Monday, sweeping two more games, 13-2 over St. Mary’s Minnesota and 10-0 in a rematch with Clarke University.

In the opener against St. Mary’s, the Jayhawks rapped out 11 hits, including a home run by Willo Staal (Fruitport), doubles by Madison Clarke (North Muskegon) and Hayden Ruel (Oakridge) and a single by Brie Pastor (Oakridge). Pastor, Kendyll Bond (Jenison) all had multiple hits.

Makayla Thompson (Reeths-Puffer) had a dominating performance in the pitcher’s circle, mowing down seven batters, giving up just two hits and walking only two.

Bond twirled a shut out over Clarke University JV, allowing just two hits through five innings. She also hit a 3-run home run in the first inning to set the stage for the win.

The Jayhawks scored seven runs in the fifth inning.

Kennadi Dykstra (Fruitport) led the Jayhawks at the plate, going 2 for 3. Clarke was in on the most plays, with nine, as the Jayhawks played error free defense.

Also getting hits for the Jayhawks were Pastor, Thompson, Morgan Knapp (Whitehall).

The Jayhawks improve to 4-0 for the season.
