FLORIDA — Muskegon Community College’s women’s softball team split a pair of games on its Florida trip, losing the first to Heartland Community College 8-1 and rebounding to defeat Erie Community College 10-0.

Lexi Brown (Whitehall) went 2 for 2 at the plate against Heartland to lead the Jayhawks to a 9-8 edge in hits. She was the only base runner to score.

Willo Staal (Fruitport), Kennadi Dykstra (Fruitport) also had multiple hits for the Jayhawks.

Makayla Thompson (Reeths-Puffer) was in the pitcher’s circle for the Jayhawks and took the loss.

Kendyll Bond (Mona Shores) was solid in the circle and threw a great game for the Jayhawks in their shut out of Erie.

The Jayhawks continued to swing some hot bats, rapping out a total of 15 hits in the contest. Morgan Knapp (Whitehall), Brianna Pastor (Oakridge), Hayden Ruel (Oakrridge), Madison Clarke (North Muskegon), Dykstra and Bond all had multiple hits.

Clarke and Maddison Mettler (Mona Shores) belted  home runs in the second and third inning, respectively.

The Jayhawks are now 9-1 for the season.
