MUSKEGON — The Muskegon Community College women’s basketball team had been awarded the 13th seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II women’s basketball championship tournament which will be March 15-19 at the SCA Fieldhouse in Port Huron.

Seeds were announced Tuesday afternoon.

Now 24-4 on the season after winning the Great Lakes District A title, tip off the tournament on Wednesday, March 16 at 11 a.m. against No. 4 seed Illinois Central which is 24-9 and won the Central District.

The Jayhawks are making their second consecutive appearance in the nationals, and third in school history.

Muskegon CC is on a 13-game winning streak. The Jayhawks/Illinois Central winner is scheduled to play the Bryant and Stratton College-Edison St. winner on Thursday, March 17 at 8 p.m.

“We are very excited to play against one of the most decorated programs in NJCAA Division II history,” said Jayhawks head coach Jason Cooper.

“Getting the 13th seed was about where I thought we would be, but any team we face in the national tournament is going to bring a different challenge. We will be ready and prepared, and can’t wait to play.”

Semifinals are slated for Friday, March 18 with the championship game Saturday, March 19.

Edison State (OH) no record given, 13. Muskegon CC (MI) 24-4, 14. Oakland (MI) 22-8, 15. Cape Fear (NC) 18-5 and 16. Dakota (ND) 21-12.
