For the first time ever, the girls have their own MHSAA individual state wrestling tournament in all four classes, and West Michigan will be represented by a total of 13 grapplers this weekend at Ford Field in Detroit.

Yes, it’s the same site where the boys will be competing for individual state titles .. and, at the same time, another historic moment.

 

Montague had the most girls qualify for the finals with five, including Presley Davis who is 13-10 at 120 pounds, Ava Pelton who is 13-9 at 155, Emma Pendell who is 16-6 at 140, Abby Thommen who is 14-9 at 125 and Savannah Winkleblack who is 15-2 at 110.

Fremont has the next most wrestlers going to state with three, including Lexie Andree who is 9-5 at 170, Kaidyn Pierson who is 10-2 at 105 and Ella Shields who is 9-3 at 120.     

Grand Haven is also taking three girls to state, including Hannah Lameris who is 8-7 at 120, Lynsey Light who is 5-3 at 105 and Isabelle Wisenbaugh who is 2-5 at 190.

Mason County has one girl competing at state as Nyvaeh Wendt brings an 11-6 record into the meet at 105.

Spring Lake also qualified one wrestler for the girls-only state meet in Braelyn Flemming who is 3-6 at 255.
