SPRING LAKE — Montague’s boys basketball team extended its winning streak to three straight games after defeating Muskegon Oakridge, 55-39 in a MHSAA Division 3 district semifinal at Spring Lake on Wednesday night.

It was a close game throughout, with five lead changes and two ties.

Oakridge forged a narrow 13-12 edge after the first quarter. But the Wildcats started their pullaway with a 17-8 advantage in the second quarter to gain a 29-20 lead at the half.

The Wildcats played great defense in the third quarter as well, limiting the Eagles to seven points and scoring 12 to build a 41-27 lead going into the fourth quarter. Oakridge had a 14-11 edge in the final eight minutes.

“That was probably most complete game of the season,” said Montague coach David Osborne. “I was proud of our defensive effort, and how we controlled ourselves offensively to get good looks for scores.”

Paul Olson led the Wildcats with 15 points, followed by Isaiah Atchison with 10, and Owen Raeth and Tate Stine with eight apiece. Stine, Raeth and Atchison each had two steals.

Archison led Montague with 12 rebounds and Stine hauled down six. Raeth, Olson and Atchison had six steals apiece. Atchison had six blocked shots.

Montague improved to 16-6 and moves on to meet Whitehall in the district championship game Friday night at 7 p.m.

Oakridge finished the year 12-9.
