Muskegon–A back-and-forth defensive battle ended up favoring the Montague Wildcats as they ended up victorious 41-35 over Oakridge on Wednesday evening in district semifinal action.
Montague struggled early as Oakridge led 8-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats bounced back with a strong second quarter taking a halftime lead 15-12. A tight second half kept the game close as Montague led 26-22 at the end of the third quarter.
Kendall Osborne guided the Wildcats with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Emma Peterson tallied eight points and four rebounds. Claire Meacham added eight points and a dominant 11 rebounds.
Oakridge was fueled by Jasmine Pastor with 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Anna Lundquist delivered 10 points and eight rebounds. Destyni Lane had a well-rounded performance with eight points, two rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
Montague will move on to face Spring Lake in the district championship game on Friday evening. The Wildcats improve to 17-4 on the season.
Oakridge finishes the season with an overall record of 8-14 and a 6-8 record in the WMC.
