Oakridge, Ravenna, Reeths-Puffer and Spring Lake win in girl’s softball games

Oakridge grabbed an early lead and then scored eight runs in the second inning to put the game away.

Leading the Sailors at bat were sophomore Maggie McCarthy, who was 2-for-3, while Elizabeth Savacool, Brooklyn Graham, Mia Geoghan and Abbie Critchett each had one hit.

Eight of 10 batters had at least one hit for the Eagles, and all 10 players scored at least one run.

Brooklyn Galdeen picked up the win in the circle, ringing up six strike outs and allowing two runs on three hits in three innings.

Ravenna 8-7, Holton 7-2

Ravenna’s girls softball team swept a doubleheader from Holton, 8-7 and 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon in bitterly cold conditions.

Emma Herreman led the way for the Bulldogs at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double. Emma Gillard and Kara Postema each ripped out a triple, Kendra Denhof rapped out a double and Liberty Willick was 2-for-4 while Ellie Solern had a hit.

Gillard was in the circle for the Bulldogs, allowing seven runs on five hits and five walks while she struck out six.

In the second game, Ravenna defeated the Red Devils, 7-2 in five innings.

Addison Gillard finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Postema had a triple. Denhof, Maddie Kilbourne and Willick each had a hit.

Gillard was the winning pitcher. She gave up two runs on three hits with one walk and struck out seven.

Rockets 10, Vikings 8

Reeths-Puffer held off Whitehall, 10-8 in a single girls softball game Tuesday afternoon.

The Rockets found themselves trailing, 8-3 going into the top of the seventh inning and then rallied for seven runs to pull out the win. Natalie Kunnen’s bases clearing triple sealed it for Reeths-Puffer.

Kaylee Jones had two doubles and three hits overall to lead the Rockets’ 11-hit attack. Kunnen also had a pair of doubles to go with her triple. Caitlyn Duffey was 2-for-3 with a home run.

Duffey was also the winning pitcher, ringing up 11 strikeouts.

Game 2 was incomplete.

Spring Lake 15-18, Orchard View 0-3

Spring Lake rolled up a 15-0 shut out over Orchard View the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday. The Lakers won the nightcap, 18-3.

Avery Flynn was the winning pitcher for the Lakers, spinning a no-hitter with nine strike outs and one walk.

In the second game, Emily Batka struck out four and earned the victory.

Tessa Britt had a big day at the plate with a home run and seven runs batted in. Flynn went 3-for-3 and Alexa Carter finished the game 2-for-3.
