PENTWATER — Pentwater’s boys basketball team celebrated Senior Night with a 58-49 victory over Manistee Catholic Central on Tuesday night in the Western Michigan D League in a makeup game.

The Falcons found themselves trailing, 11-7 after the first quarter. But they scored evenly with the Sabers in the second, each team finishing with 13 and the Sabers led, 24-20 at the half.

After the halftime ceremonies honoring their four seniors, the Falcons roared to a 16-5 scoring advantage to leap over the Sabers to take a 36-29 lead heading into the fourth period. The Falcons edged the Sabers, 22-20 in a wild final eight minutes.

“We regrouped at halftime, and came out in a full court defense,” Pentwater coach Ashley Lubera said. “That gave us some momentum as a team, and it paid off.

“In the fourth quarter we controlled the tempo, but had to make a lot of free throws down the stretch. Drew Kolenda made two 3-point baskets allowed us to keep a 10-point lead.”

Tyler Plummer-Eisenlohr had a big night for the Falcons with 23 points with seven steals and five rebounds. Will Werkema-Grondsma tossed in 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds, had two steals, three assists and two blocked shots.

Kolenda finished with nine points, dished out four assists and picked off five steals as well as five rebounds. Brandon Macher added four assists and had five steals to go with five rebounds. Jonny Arnouts added six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Pentwater improved to 7-10 overall and 7-8 in the league. The Falcons conclude the regular season Thursday night hosting Mesick in the last WMD game of the year as well.
