CARSON CITY — Ravenna’s boys basketball team had its six-game winning streak, as well as its season, come to an end Wednesday night in the MHSAA Division 3 district tournament with a 47-38 loss to Pewamo-Westphalia at Carson City.

It was not a good night for the Bulldogs from the start, as they found themselves in a 10-point hole, 20-10, at the end of the first quarter.

Although the Bulldogs put the clamps on the Pirates in the second and third quarters, their offense didn’t produce enough to put a dent in the deficit.

Ravenna outscored the Pirates, 8-7 in the second period and went into the half with a 27-18 deficit.

The Bulldogs doubled up the Pirates in the third quarter, 14-7 but still trailed, 34-32 going into the fourth period. The Pirates had a 13-8 advantage in the final eight minutes to dash any hopes of a Ravenna rally.

Ravenna was outscored, 15-14 from the field and went 0 for 9 from 3-point range while the Pirates sank 6 of 20 from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs were outscored by one from the free throw line, sinking 10 of 15 compared to 11 of 14 for the Pirates. Ravenna had a 24-22 rebounding advantage.

Pewamo scored 10 points off 18 Ravenna turnovers, while the Bulldogs had four points off 14 Pirate miscues.

Clay Schullo and Grant Becklin each scored 11 points to lead the Bulldogs while Kyle Beebe added eight.

Schullo and Travis May dished out two assists apiece. Hunter Hogan picked off four steals and Beebe had three.

Ravenna finished the season with a 16-7 record.
