MUSKEGON — Spring Lake jumped out to a 14-point lead at the end of the first quarter and cruised to a 51-29 victory over Whitehall in a MHSAA girls basketball district semifinal at Oakridge on Wednesday night.

The Lakers smothered the Vikings offense with its rock solid defense, and flashed its offensive muscle in the first quarter to establish early control with a 16-2 lead.

Whitehall spent the rest of the night trying to slow down the Lakers’ offense, to no avail, and shift its offense into high gear, which also didn’t work.

Spring Lake had a balanced attack, with Meah Bajt scoring 13 points and grabbing five rebounds. Jennifer Judge contributed nine points and eight rebounds.

Brooke Bolhouse hauled down six rebounds, picked off three steals and added four points. Emma Nicles pulled down eight rebounds to go with her seven points.

Ella Andree chipped in with six rebounds, three steals and four points. Nicole Schmitt and Alexa Carter contributed four points apiece.

Whitehall was led in scoring by Charlie Kent with 16 points.

Spring Lake improved to 13-8 and will play Montague for the district title Friday night at 7 p.m.

The Vikings ended their season with a 9-13 record.
