GRAND RAPIDS- The Spring Lake boys swimming and diving team wrapped up the season on Saturday with a third-place finish in the state championship at Calvin College.

With a total team effort, the Lakers matched their highest finish for the second time in program history.

Every athlete who swam and dove earned tremendous accolades, with both divers qualifying for the finals,” said Spring Lake coach Nick Zacek. “A first in the history of our diving program.”

Zacek garnered a nomination for the MHSAA Division 3 Coach of the Year award for his efforts this season.

Six Lakers earned first-team All-State honors for their relay performances.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Charles Brown, Ethan Hare, Johnny Wachter and Joe Westhoff claimed a state title for the Lakers while Noah Fletcher, Wachter, Westhoff and Luke Zuelke finished runner-up in the 400 Free Relay.

Brown also earned All-American honors and set a program record with a title in the 50 Free Style where he posted the fastest time in all of Michigan this year.

The squad of Fletcher, Hare, Westhoff and Zuelke swam to a fourth-place finish in the 200 Free Relay.

Divers Wit Miller and Cayden Walker earned All-State honorable mention recognition.
