FRUITPORT — Montague’s boys basketball team bounced back from a loss at Ravenna with a thrilling 47-45 victory over Fruitport in a non-conference game Thursday night in Fruitport.

It was the Trojans who had the upper hand early, taking a 16-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Montague’s defense helped the Wildcats to a 7-3 advantage in the second quarter to trim Fruitport’s lead to 19-17 at the end of the half.

Fruitport outscored the Wildcats, 11-9 in the third period and went into the fourth quarter with a 30-26 advantage. Montague prevailed with a 21-15 advantage in the final eight minutes.

The lead changed hands eight times in the game, and was tied five times.

Montague was led in scoring by Tate Stine who tossed in 18 points. He also pulled down eight rebounds and dished out three assists and picked off three steals.

Isaiah Atchison contributed 13 points and five steals. Owen Raeth added six points.

The Wildcats ended the regular season with a 14-6 record and will have a rematch with Fruitport in the MHSAA district tournament in Spring Lake.
