FENNVILLE —A slow start put the Western Michigan Christian boys basketball team in comeback mode, and the Warriors just couldn’t make it all the way back in losing, 56-50 on Tuesday night in non-conference action on the road.

The Warriors trailed, 7-0 in the first minute of the game and struggled to climb out of the hole the rest of the night. WMC did take a one-point lead early in the fourth quarter.

After gaining the lead the Warriors were delt a blow when Fennville knocked down a couple 3-point buckets to regain the lead and held on for the win.

“We showed a lot of character, and fought hard,” said WMC coach Kurt Gruppen.

Owen Varnado had a big night with 24 points and ripped down 13 rebounds. Sam Liggett added 13 points.

The Warriors fell to 7-12 overall and finishes the regular season Thursday night with a makeup game at Whitehall.
