ADA — Whitehall extended its winning streak to seven straight with a 61-52 victory over Sparta in the MHSAA Division 2 boys district basketball tournament at Forest Hills Eastern on Monday night.

The Vikings trailed Sparta, 14-11 at the end of the first quarter, and the Spartans outscored the Vikings, 18-12 in the second to build a 32-23 lead at the half.

Whitehall regrouped during the intermission and came out hot in the second half, outscoring the Spartans, 19-10 in the third quarter and pulled into a 42-42 with the Spartans heading into the fourth period.

The Vikings outscored the Spartans, 19-10 in the final period to take the win.

Brodie Fogus had a big night for the Vikings with 20 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the field, and 4 of 4 at the free throw line. Camden Thompson shot 6 of 12 from the field and made 5 of 7 free throws for 17 points.

Red Watson contributed 13 points, including a 4 of 4 performance at the free throw line. The Vikings made 20 of 54 field goals for 37 percent, and were 17 of 19 at the free throw line for 89 percent compared to 7 of 9 for the Spartans.

Thompson hauled down 14 rebounds while Fogus pulled down nine. Thompson and Watson had three steals apiece, and Fogus and Nate Bolley each had two. Watson dished out five assists and Thompson three.

Whitehall improves to 18-5 and advances to the regional final on Wednesday night.
