SPRING LAKE–The Whitehall Vikings dominated the second quarter outscoring Montague 22-8 to stretch the lead to an insurmountable distance. The Viking’s won the district title game 57-39.

A low scoring, defensive first quarter favored Whitehall 9-6. The offensive explosion in the second quarter led to a 31-14 halftime lead for the Vikings. Montague and Whitehall played evenly in the second half as the lead remained in the favor of Whitehall 46-28 at the end of the third quarter.

Camden Thompson provided the spark for the Vikings with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Red Watson was close behind Thompson with 11 points, five assists, and three steals. Kyle Stratton came in off the bench with nine points and a perfect six for six from the line.

The Wildcats were led by Owen Raeth with nine points and Colton Blankstrom off the bench with nine points and three rebounds. Braeden Johnston contributed with seven points off the bench as well. Isaiah Atchison was the leading rebounder for the Wildcats with 13 rebounds.

Coach David Osborne after the game said, “Whitehall played with better energy, effort and drive tonight. I am really proud of our team and the season we had this year.”

Whitehall improves to 17-5 on the season. The Vikings will take on Sparta in the regional semifinals on Monday night at 5:30 pm at Forest Hills Eastern High School.

Montague finishes the season with a 16-7 record and an 8-6 Western Michigan Conference record to finish third in the conference.
