CUSTER — In a pair of high scoring games, the Mason County Eastern girls softball team enjoyed the sunshine with two Western Michigan D League victories over visiting Bear Lake, 12-11 and 19-7 at home Thursday.

But it wasn’t a particularly good day for pitchers, as Eastern starter and winner Skylar Harry gave up eight earned runs on 10 hits and three walks in the opener. She also fanned seven batters.

Offensively it was a different story for the Cardinals as their bats were hot from the start. Corinna Hernandez led the way, going 3-for-3 with five runs batted in and three runs scored.

Next in line was Deanna Codman who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Harry also worked her way on base with two walks and scored three runs.

Keeli Johnson also drew three walks and stole one base, while Ashlynn Matlock walked twice and scored two runs.

Harry pitched the first three innings of the nightcap for the Cardinals, and was tagged for seven runs (five earned) on four hits and four walks, and struck out eight.

She also was 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk, scored four runs and drove in three. Codman was 2-for-2, was hit by a pitch twice, had three RBI, scored four runs and had a stolen base.

Avery Crawford and Hernandez each contributed a base hit, drew a walk and scored two runs. Crawford drove in four runs and Hernandez two.

Aralyn Donald and Matlock each were walked twice, Matlock was also hit by a pitch and scored three runs, while Donald scored one run.
