WHITEHALL — Will Chye shined both on the mound and at the plate on a chilly Monday afternoon as the Mason County Central baseball team recorded a pair of wins over Whitehall, 3-1 and 5-2 in the West Michigan Conference on the road.

Chye went the distance on the hill in the opener, spinning a masterful three-hitter and walking only two while fanning eight batters.

He also snapped a 1-1 tie with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning.

Simon Shimel produced a single to drive in a run, and Jacob Johnson crossed the plate for the Spartans other run. Tyler Thurow and Raiden Keefer also contributed singles, while Gage Ruiz collected a RBI.

Johnson took the bump for the Spartans in the nightcap, and did not allow an earned run while scattering six Vikings hits. He issued just two walks and struck out seven. Shimel pitched an inning of relief and gave up a run on two walks.

Chye again was a big producer at the plate for the Spartans, going 2-for-4, both of his hits being doubles, drove in one and scored twice.

Brady Anes contributed a single, scored a run and had a RBI. Shimel went 3-for-3 with a double and a RBI, while Ruiz chipped in with a single and Owen Shimel and Keefer each scored a run, while a run scored on Brayden Overmyer’s sacrifice.
