MESICK — Wyatt Crawford struck out 11 and gave up just one hit as Mason County Eastern’s baseball team won the first game of Monday afternoon’s Western Michigan D League doubleheader with Mesick, 2-0.

But, the Cardinals lost the nightcap in a game that was shortened to three innings because of darkness.

One other runner reached base for the Bulldogs on a hit batter, but Crawford did not issue a walk.

James Drake led the Cardinals offense, going 2-for-4 while Keegan Bates, Clay Shoup, James Drake and Jude Mickevich each had single hits. Shoup and Bates scored the only runs.

Drake pitched the second game for the Cardinals and gave up six runs on two hits and five walks, while hitting five batters. He finished with four strike outs.

The Cardinals’ only run was scored by Drake, who stole both second and third after reaching base and trotted home on Bates’ triple up the middle.

Bates finished the game 2-for-2 with the one RBI. Eli Shoup also had a hit for the Cardinals.

Eastern moved to 3-3 overall and fell to 3-1 in the WMD.
