GRAND HAVEN–Grand Haven Buccaneer Nathan Boehnke has signed his letter of intent to play football at Saginaw Valley State University. The senior tight end played his first-ever season of football this past fall and immediately established himself as a top player.

Boehnke first joined the team as a big body – 6’4 and 225 pounds – with little football knowledge, but he worked hard to study the game and improve his skill.

He’s a strong kid and I really needed to convince him to come and play football,” Grand Haven head football coach Mike Farley said. “He doesn’t have any bad habits.”

Boehnke was first team all-conference in the OK-Red and second team All-Muskegon Area in 2021. He was an important part of the Buccaneer team, which finished 3-6 on the season.

He will join a solid SVSU squad, which went 7-4 last year.

“[Nathan] has so much confidence and he’s really excited about the opportunity to play college football,” said Farley.

Boehnke has a 3.2 GPA at Grand Haven and plans to major in business management next year. Nathan is the son of Tracy and Chris Boehnke.
