GRAND RAPIDS — Jaxon Huffman struck out 17 batters to tie the Mona Shores record for the most in a single, seven-inning game as the Sailors defeated Grand Rapids Union, 4-0 in the opener at Grand Rapids on Tuesday afternoon. The Sailors also won the nightcap, 14-1.

Huffman was dominant, giving up just three batters and faced just one batter over the minimum.

Backing him offensively were Mason Brunworth and Jason Anderson, who had two hits apiece. Aaron Piasecki contributed a triple and two runs scored.

The Sailors bats really heated up in Game 2, paced by Diego Pena who had three hits, a run batted in and two runs scored. Mark Konecny rapped out two hits, drove in three runs and scored two hits.

Anderson reached base four times, twice on walks to go along with two hits and scored two runs.

Toeing the rubber on the hill was Javanni Johnson, who allowed just one earned run on only two hits and struck out five in seven complete innings.

Mona Shores improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the OK Green Conference, and are scheduled to return home Thursday for the third and final game of the season series against Union.
