NEWAYGO—Kayla Fisk of Newaygo will take her basketball talents to Muskegon Community College next fall and play for the Jayhawks and head coach Jason Cooper.

Fisk signed her national letter of intent to continue her basketball career on Monday afternoon in a ceremony held at Newaygo High School.

Fisk was a major contributor in Newaygo posting a 22-2 record during the 2021-22 season as she scored 6 points, had 5 deflections, 3.6 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.1 assists per game.

Kayla has played a large part in the success of Newaygo girls’ basketball these past three years,” said Newaygo head basketball coach Nathan Thomsma.

One word to best describe her is tenacious. She has a special gift in her ability to impact a game without having to touch a basketball through her energy and defensive toughness,” Thomasma said.

Fisk currently holds a 3.2 GPA at Newaygo and has chosen dental hygience as her major at MCC. Kayla is the daughter of Ryan Fisk and Amanda Harris, along with Charlie Harris (step-dad).
