BEAR LAKE — Pentwater’s girls softball team swept a Western Michigan D League doubleheader from Bear Lake, 9-0 and 14-0 in Bear Lake on Monday.

Cold weather kept the Falcons’ bats silenced for a bit in the first game, but they eventually came to life while the Lakers were held hitless by Mikaylyn Kenney.

Kenney pitched all six innings and struck out 16 without a walk in notching her no-hitter.

Crysta Cluchey did a superlative job behind the plate as the Falcons’ catcher while eighth grader Charlie Swanger stepped up big at second base.

Kenney led the offensive charge with a double, triple and a home run over the left-center field fence. Bailee Hasil added a double. Cluchey, Mandi Sayles, Marissa Sayles and Maren Martinson each had singles.

Pentwater’s bats grew even colder in the second game, but walks and Bear Lake errors contributed to the Falcons’ offense.

Kenney pitched five innings and again kept the Lakers hitless in the contest. She struck out 10 and issued just two walks to keep the Lakers off the bases.

Cluchey made a great catch and Martinson hauled down a hard fly ball to center to preserve the no-hitter.

The Falcons improved to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
