BRETHREN — Pentwater’s girls softball team competed in the 11th annual Brethren Invitational on Saturday, defeating Brethren 17-0 and Hesperia 11-1.

Pentwater scored seven runs in the first inning against the Bobcats, and had 17 by the third.

Mikaylyn Kenney did not permit the Bobcats a single hit over three innings, and struck out seven while not giving up a walk.

Offensively, the Falcons were led by Crysta Cluchey who was 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored. Kenney, Mandi Sayles and Marissa Sayles each added hits.

After failing to put a runner on in the first inning against Hesperia, the Falcons exploded for nine runs in the second, and then added single runs in the third and fourth, respectively.

Kenney was in the circle in the second game as well, and threw five innings. She gave up just two hits, did not walk anyone and struck out 12.

Bailee Hasil went 3-for-3 to lead the offense with two doubles. Marissa Sayles was 2-for-2 and Kenney finished 2-for-3. Maren Martinsen added a double while Charlie Swanger had a single.

“Great teamwork was displayed today,” said Pentwater head coach Steve Rossiter. “The girls did all of the small things. They played clean defense, communicated and kept each other up.

“I am very proud of these girls, and happy that we had the opportunity to play today.”
