BENTON HARBOR–The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks women’s softball team swept a doubleheader from the Lake Michigan College Red Hawks on Monday afternoon. The Jayhawks took the first game 8-4 and the nightcap by a score of 12-4.

In the first game Makayla Thompson (Reeths Puffer) took the win on the mound for the Jayhawks. Thompson gave up seven hits, four runs, while striking out nine, and walking one.

Morgan Knapp (Whitehall) singled in the top of the 7th inning scoring one run. Kendyll Bond (Jenison) hit a home run in the seventh inning.

The Jayhawks collected 12 hits on the day. Alexis Brown (Whitehall), Willo Staal (Fruitport), and Bond each collected multiple hits for the Jayhawks.

In the nightcap Kendyll Bond (Jenison) took the win on the mound allowing 6 hits, while striking out two and allowing no walks. Makayla Thompson (Reeths Puffer) earned a save coming in for the last two innings.

Bond doubled in the first inning, scoring one to start the Jayhawks off. Brianna Pastor (Oakridge), Maddison Mettler (Mona Shores), and Madison Clarke (North Muskegon) each had multiple hits in the third inning and scored four collectively.

The Jayhawks had 17 hits throughout the game.

Annika Roersma (West Catholic), Willo Staal (Fruitport), Pastor, Bond, Kennadi Dykstra (Fruitport), and Mettler all collected multiple hits for the Jayhawks.

The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks are now 18-6. The Jayhawks will host Mid Michigan College on Thursday at 3pm.
