CENTREVILLE— The Muskegon Community College women’s softball team swept a doubleheader from the Viking’s of Glen Oaks Community College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Jayhawks took game the opening game 6-2 and the nightcap 9-5 to improve their season record to 16-4.

Makayla Thompson (Reeths Puffer) got the win for the Jayhawks in the first game, giving up 2 hits throughout 7 innings and striking out nine.

Willo Staal (Fruitport) hit a home run in the seventh inning.

The Jayhawks collected 15 hits throughout 7 innings.

Morgan Knapp (Whitehall), Hayden Ruel (Oakridge), Staal, Annika Roersma (West Catholic), Brianna Pastor (Oakridge), and Kendyll Bond (Jenison) all racked up multiple hits for the Jayhawks. The Jayhawks did not commit a single error.

In the nightcap Kendyll Bond (Jenison) started the game allowing 7 hits and 5 runs over three innings and striking out 1. Makayla Thompson (Reeths Puffer) took the win in the circle, blanking the Viking’s as she gave no hits or runs throughout 4 innings of work. Thompson also struck out three and walked zero.

Bond hit a home run in the third inning. The Jayhawks collected 11 hits throughout 7 innings. Willo Staal (Fruitport) and Hayden Ruel (Oakridge) each racked up 3 hits to lead the Jayhawks. Madison Clarke (North Muskegon) singled in the second inning, scoring one run.
