HOWARD CITY — Ludington’s baseball team opened the season with a doubleheader sweep over Howard City Tri-County in non-conference action on the road Monday night, 14-7 and 13-0.

“Tonight was a great way to kick off our season,” said Orioles head coach Evan Kroeze. “Both starting pitchers did a nice job of attacking the strike zone, and mixing in their off speed stuff.

“At the plate, our hitters looked like they were in mid-season form. We had great at-bats all night, and the guys did an excellent job of having an approach at the plate. We hope this is just the start and we can keep it rolling.”

In game one, Hayden Madl got the win on the mound. He gave up eight hits and three earned runs while striking out eight in six innings.

Nathan Dilleway was 2-for-3 to lead the Orioles at the plate with a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Kian Gurizzian was 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored.

Dilleway took the bump in the nightcap and gave up three hits, no earned runs and struck out four in five innings.

At the plate Gabe Hogenson hit a two-run homer and scored two runs. Stephen Weinert finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
