SCOTTVILLE — A doubleheader sweep over Holton in a pair of non-conference games Tuesday afternoon, 9-4 and 6-5 pushed the Mason County Central baseball team’s record to 4-0 on the young season.

Owen Shimel started the first game on the bump for the Spartans, and threw the first 4 2/3 innings and gave up one earned run and seven walks. He struck out eight.

Will Chye followed him and threw 2/3 of an inning, walking both batters. Jacob Johnson was called on out of the bullpen and ended the game with two strike outs.

Johnson collected a single and drove in three runs while he scored one himself.

Chye contributed a base hit with a run batted in and a run scored. Braden Overmyer scored a run and drove in another, Simon Shimel had a single and two runs scored.

Gage Ruiz had a single and two runs scored, Raiden Keefer had a single and a run scored, Ethan Huffman had a single and three runs batted in and Peyton Merz drove in a run.

In the second game, Braylin Thurow took the hill for the Spartans and threw four innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits, three walks and struck out three.

Shimel had two hits, two runs scored and a run batted in. Tyler Thurow had a run scored as well and drove in the winning run. Owen Shimel scored a run and knocked in a pair.
