MESICK — It was a rough day for the Mason County Eastern girls softball team Monday afternoon when the Cardinals dropped a Western Michigan D League doubleheader to Mesick, 19-3 and 29-4 in Mesick.

Taylor Campbell was in the circle for the Cardinals in Game 1 and was touched for 18 hits and three walks, which led to Mesick scoring 19 runs — 15 of which were earned. She struck out one.

Deanna Codman, Campbell and Aralyn Donald reached base on walks and eventually scored for the Cardinals.

Skylar Harry took the circle in Game 2 for the Cardinals and struggled with her control, walking nine batters. The Bulldogs also knocked out seven hits. Harry gave up 14 earned runs of the 20 Mesick scored while she was pitching.

Campbell relieved her and was tagged for six earned runs out of nine runs total while giving up six hits and three walks.

Eastern had only one hit in the second game, that off the bat of Codman.
