ZEELAND — Mona Shores’ girls softball team split a doubleheader with Zeeland East on Tuesday despite the bad weather, winning the opener 6-5 and losing the nightcap 10-5.

With the game tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning in the opener, the Sailors came up to bat and Abbie Critchett knocked home the game-winning run.

Kristen Hylland was the winning pitcher for the Sailors, despite giving up eight hits. She struck out three.

Leading the way offensively for the Sailors were Hannah Geoghan with three hits and Macey Spaniola contributed two.

In the second game, Zeeland East pulled away in the seventh inning.

Geoghan continued to swung a hot bat for the Sailors, collecting two hits at the plate and driving in two runs.

Maggie McCarthy, Elizabeth Savacool, Critchett and Amelia Pena each chipped in with a base hit.

Hylland hung tough in the circle, battling the frigid temperatures to strike out five.
