FRUITPORT — In a back-and-forth game, the Fruitport baseball team had a one-run lead after five innings before visiting Reeths-Puffer pulled out a 8-5 decision on Friday afternoon at Marsh Field.

The Rockets put the Trojans in a 2-0 hole at the end of the first, but the Trojans came back to plate three runs in the bottom half and then tacked on another run in the fourth to climb into a 4-2 lead.

Reeths-Puffer scrambled back with two runs in the top of the fifth to knot the score at 4-4, but the Trojans rallied for a run in the bottom half Cody Matuz led off with a double, stole third and eventually scored to give Fruitport a 5-4 lead.

But, the Rockets scored two runs in each of the next two innings to take the win.

Aiden Vela paced the Trojans with two hits, including a double. Ryan Bosch pitched the first five innings and struck out nine while issuing just one walk.

Fruitport saw its record drop to 4-1 on the season.
