SHELBY– The Manistee girls soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 win over Shelby on Wednesday evening.

A second-half goal by Manistee’s Mia Hermann broke a 1-1 tie as the Chippewa’s held off the Tigers.

Allison Kelley also found the net for the Chipperwa’s with a goal of her own.

Scoring the lone goal for the Tigers was Kendal Zaverl.

Manistee (1-0) will host Benzie Central on Friday in their home opener.

Shelby (1-1) will travel to Hart on Tuesday to kick off West Michigan Conference action.
