WHITEHALL — Whitehall’s girls softball team defeated visiting Coopersville, 7-6 in an exciting game on the Vikings’ diamond Wednesday afternoon.

Coopersville led, 1-0 before Hailey Carnes stroked her first career home run to tie the score. The Vikings scored two more runs in the fourth on a wild pitch and a fielder’s choice.

But the Broncos came back to take a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth when the Vikings committed a couple of errors and Coopersville sent out two home runs.

The Vikings didn’t fold, and battled back, putting up a four-spot to take the lead for good. Kyleigh Martin’s two-run double tied the score, and Alexis Taylor knocked Martin in with a single to left.

Martin was in the pitcher’s circle for the Vikings, and notched her first win of the season. She allowed one earned run and struck out seven.

Illeana Hatcher led the Vikings offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double. Taylor also had a double. Martin finished with a double and two runs batted in.
