MUSKEGON — Mona Shores’ girls softball team split a doubleheader with Reeths-Puffer, losing the opener 8-6 and rebounding to win the nightcap 11-6 at home Wednesday night.

Trailing by six runs going into the seventh inning, the Sailors mounted a stirring rally, scoring four runs but couldn’t make it all the way back.

Hannah Googhan and Macey Spaniola each had a double while Amelia Pena contributed a single in that seventh inning comeback for the Sailors.

Caitlynn Duffey picked up the win in the circle for the Rockets, ringing up 12 strike outs.

Duffey also sparkled at the plate with three hits, including a home run and two doubles. Megan Barmes also had three hits with a double. Kaylee Jones and Mady Snyder each had two singles, while Emme Buzzell had a double and a single.

Kristen Hylland took the loss in the circle for the Sailors, giving up 11 hits while striking out two.

Mia Googhan led the Sailors at the plate with three hits while Pena finished with a pair of safeties.

The Sailors knocked out 17 hits in the nightcap, with Pena, Hannah Googhan, Abbie Critchett and Maggie McCarthy each having three hits.

Hylland picked up the win in the circle, giving up five runs and striking out a pair in five innings.

Reeths-Puffer had nine hits, with five different girls collecting singles in the nightcap. Buzzell paced the attack with two hits while Jones and Alyssa Sahlhoff each had a double.

Snyder took the loss in the circle, striking out five.
