HART –The Shelby girls soccer team edged out the Hart Pirates in the opening round of the district tournament on Wednesday evening.

The Tigers topped the Pirates by a score of 2-1.

Hannah Frees put the Tigers on the board with a goal assisted by America Cruz. Kendall Zaverl netted the second goal off of a pass from Haydee Pedroza.

The Pirates’ Cristelia Ranggel stopped the shutout with just three minutes to play with a score off of a free-kick.

Shelby (5-14-2, 3-6-1) will move on to face Orchard View in the semi-final round of the district tournament. Action will kick off next Wednesday at Montague.

Hart wraps up their season with a record of 4-14-2, 1-7-1.
