HART — Hart’s baseball team lost a West Michigan Conference doubleheader to visiting Shelby, 3-2 and a 1-0 walkoff win in the eighth inning.  

Lalo Garcia picked up the win for the Tigers in Game 1, allowing only two hits and recording 16 strike outs. He also hit a home run in the fourth inning.  

Damian Viterna ripped a RBI double in the seventh inning, giving him two RBI for the game.  

Blake Weirich took the hill for the Pirates in the opener and gave up only two hits over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking only one.  

Shelby held a one-run lead going into the bottom of the sixth when the Pirates executed a double steal that scored the lead runner to tie the game.  

The Tigers pushed across the winning run in the top of the seventh.  

Logan Purdy went 2-for-3 to lead the Pirates at the plate.  

Joseph Hayes went all eight innings in the second game, throwing a three-hitter with eight strike outs without a walk.  

With the game scoreless in the eighth inning, and Garcia on second, Travis Boughan hit a single to drive in Garcia for the winning run. Boughan finished with

three hits for the game. Wyatt Dickman had two hits.  

Hart freshman Ty Schlukebir threw a complete game in the nightcap, walking only one and allowing the defense to make plays while still recording seven strike outs.  

Brandon VanderZanden, Weirich, Purdy and Kody Charron each had hits for the Pirates.
