LUDINGTON — Ludington’s girls softball team swept a Lakes 8 Activities Conference doubleheader from Orchard View, 17-1 and 16-5 at Oriole Field on Thursday afternoon.

Despite the opener going only four innings, Lilli Goodrich struck out 10, gave up two hits and walked two in the pitcher’s circle for the Orioles.

Jody Meisenheimer paced the Orioles at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. Goodrich, Rebecca Szoboszlay, Brynn Cole and Kendra Gilchrist each had two hits.

Gabby Mosher took the loss in the circle for the Cardinals and gave up 17 runs on seven hits while striking out four.

Elliana Jennings and Kenzie Thiele each had a hit for the Cardinals.

Goodrich started in the circle in game two and picked up the win. She went four innings before being relieved by Sam Hanson, faced four batters and gave up two hits before Goodrich re-entered to finish the fifth inning and wound up with 13 strike outs while allowing just three hits.

Brynn Fortner finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Goodrich went 3-for-3 with a triple, double and drove in a run.

Meisenheimer finished 3-for-3 with a double and a RBI. Ayiana Rangel hit a home run, Keeley Curtis contributed a triple and Katelynn Karnes added a double.

“These were our first conference games, and it’s always good to start off with two wins,” said Oriole head coach Sierra Holmes. “We were able to get a lot of girls some experience tonight, and it was nice to see a lot of them hit the ball.”

Mosher again was in the circle for the Cardinals and allowed 11 hits and 16 runs over four innings, striking out one.

Jennings paced the Cardinals at the plate, going 2-for-3. She ws the only Orchard View player to get a hit.

Ludington improved to 5-5 overall and is 2-0 in the Lakes 8.
