LUDINGTON — Ludington’s baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from county rival Mason County Central, 3-2 and 6-1 at Oriole Field on Thursday afternoon.

Hayden Madl picked up the win in Game 1, going the distance and allowing two runs on seven hits with seven strike outs.

Gabe Hogenson led the Orioles going 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. Kian Gurizzani was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

In the nightcap Wilson Gunsell was the winning pitcher, going the full six innings and not giving up an earned run, scattering three hits and strike out nine batters.

Hogenson again paced the Orioles at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and one RBI. Jacob Johnston also was 2-for-4 and drove in a run.

“On a night that was supposed to be Senior Night at home, our seniors played their best baseball of the year,” said Ludington head coach Evan Kroeze.

“Hayden Madl and Wilson Gunsell did an excellent job throwing all their pitches, and finding a way to get outs in big moments.

“Offensively, we had clutch hits up and down the lineup, with Gabe Hogenson delivering the go-ahead RBI’s in both games.

“It’s a great feeling to sweep our rival going into the holiday weekend, and keep preparing for districts next week.”

Ludington improved to 18-9 overall and is 10-2 in the Lakes 8 Activities Conference.
