MUSKEGON—The Lady Jayhawks softball team of Muskegon Community College wrapped up the Western Conference Championship on Monday afternoon after sweeping a doubleheader from Jackson Community College.

With the win the Jayhawks record now stands at 32-8 on the season and they will now host the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) championship game on Wednesday afternoon, May 4 in Muskegon. Game time is slated to get underway at 3pm.

Monday afternoon the Jayhawks took the opener 4-3.

The game was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 6th inning, when Maddison Mettler (Mona Shores) hit a hard ground ball, scoring one run.

Hayden Ruel (Oakridge) homered in her first at bat against the Jets.

Makayla Thompson (Reeths Puffer) got the win for the Jayhawks on the mound, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and striking out 4.

Annika Roersma (West Catholic) and Thompson collected multiple hits for the Jayhawks. Roersma led the Jayhawks hitting attack going three for three.

In the nightcap the Jayhawks shutout the Jets 8-0.

Makayla Thompson (Reeths Puffer) got the win for the Jayhawks on the mound throwing a shutout and giving up only two hits over the five innings, while striking out 3.

Morgan Knapp (Whitehall) hit a home run in the 3rd inning.

Brianna Pastor (Oakridge), Thompson, and Knapp all drove in multiple runs for the Jayhawks.

Hayden Ruel (Oakridge) and Kendyll Bond (Jenison) collected multiple hits for the Jayhawks throughout the 5 innings.
