Ravenna vs. Hesperia

RAVENNA — Ravenna’s baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Hesperia, 10-0 and 15-9 at home on Tuesday afternoon.

Brandon McFarren picked up the win on the hill for the Bulldogs in the first game. In a game shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule, McFarren scattered four hits, walked one and struck out three.

Leading hitters included Thomas McCullough who was 3-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored, Travis May who was 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, Dayton Thomas who was 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored and Hogan who was 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored.

Meyers had one hit and scored a run. Drew Mabrito had one hit, drove in one run and scored one. McFarren had one hit and Owen Scott scored a run.

In the second game May was the winning pitcher, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits, walking four and striking out five. Collin Poley threw last 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits and walked one.

Poley swung the big bat for the Bulldogs, going 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored. McCullough had two hits and scored three runs.

Thomas had two hits with three RBI and two runs scored, Meyers had two hits and Mabrito had two hits with one RBI and one run scored. May, McFarren and Scott each had a hit.

Whitehall vs. Hopkins

ROCKFORD — Whitehall’s baseball team scored a dramatic walkoff 5-4 non-conference victory over Hopkins on Tuesday afternoon at the Meijer Sports Complex in Rockford.

Jack McDowell picked up the win on the mound for the Vikings, throwing six innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits, walking two and striking out seven. Jaden Brinkert threw one inning of relief and struck out three.

The Wildcats had only four hits, one apiece by Stratton, Ryne Christiansen, Landon Howe and Brendan Schmehil. Howe drove in three runs.

Montague vs. Howell

MONTAGUE — Montague’s baseball team lost a a non-conference doubleheader to No. 6 Howell, 7-2 and 1-0 at home on Tuesday afternoon.

“Hosting the No. 6 team in Division 1, and competing with them is a big confidence boost leading up to the end of the tournament,” said Wildcats coach Kevin Buchberger.

“We need to clean up some things defensively, and we will be ready for the playoffs.”

Owen Petersen was the losing pitcher in the first game, allowing seven unearned runs on four this and one walk while striking out four.

Nick Moss, Hayden McDonald and Chase Gowell all singled for the Wildcats. Moss and Tugg Nicols scored all of the Montague runs.

The Wildcats struggled defensively, committing six errors which hurt their cause.

In the second game Colton Blankstrom took the loss for the Wildcats, throwing six innings and allowing one unearned run on five hits, walked one and struck out four.

Gowell, Blankstrom, Kade Johnson and Moss each had a single in the game.

The Wildcats were caught stealing or picked off base three times, cutting short any scoring chances they might have had. The game was called after six innings because of darkness.

Kent City vs. Holton

HOLTON — Holton’s baseball team lost a Central State Activities Association-Silver doubleheader to Kent City by identical 8-4 scores at Holton on Tuesday night.

In the first game Troy Atwood was the winning pitcher for the Eagles, going 5 2/3 innings and allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits, walking four and striking out five. Ryan Darling struck out two in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Kyler Larson was 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored to lead the Eagles at the plate. Webb Longcore went 2-for-4, Zane Kik was 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored and Josh Anderson went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Darling had a hit and two runs scored and Xander Chatel added one hit, two RBI and a run scored.

In the nightcap Longcore picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles. He pitched a complete game, allowing four runs (two earned)  and struck out six.

Anderson led the Eagles offense, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Darling was 2-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored at the plate. Larson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Kik was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.

Tyler Brummel had one hit with two RBI and a run scored, Chatel had one hit with one RBI.

Steven Kersting was the losing pitcher for the Red Devils, allowing five runs (four earned) while striking out two in 6 1/3 innings.

Bo Larabee was 2-for-3 for the Red Devils, followed by Gabe Colon who was 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Kevin Erickson took the loss in the second game for the Red Devils. He threw the first two innings and struck out two. Austin Fowler pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up one run and struck out four.

Brodrick Fialac led the Red Devils at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Rice Robins, Fowler, Carter Brant, Chase Albright, Kevein Ericson and Kersting all had one hit apiece.
