Ludington’s Rohrer tops 44-foot mark in winning regional shot put title

CHARLEVOIX — The recent tornado in Gaylord affected the Division 2 regional final track invite that was set to take place there on Saturday.  

Area schools were directed to Charlevoix High School for an alternative location.

The Ludington boys and girls track teams competed in the event and the girls finished ninth while the boys took fourth.

RyAnn Rohrer topped the 44-foot mark in winning the girls shot put event.

Rohrer won both the shot put and discus with throws of 44-feet-6-inches in the shot put and 122-feet-6-inches in the discus. Aleeyah Betts took fifth for Ludington in discus.

The Orioles picked up other points by finishing third in the 1,600-meter relay and fourth in the 3,200-meter relay.

Petoskey won the girls’ team title with 123 points.

In the boys meet, Ludington came in fourth with 73 points behind first-place Freeland.

The Orioles’ Caleb Smith won the 110-meter high hurdles with a 15.70-seconds time and came in second in the 300-meeter hurdles by .04 seconds with a 41.68-seconds time. Smith also placed fifth in the high jump.

Lucas Peterson placed second in the high jump for Ludington with a jump of 5-10.
