MUSKEGON — Western Michigan Christian toppled Manistee, 10-8 in a single game in the Lakes 8 Activities Conference at home Thursday.

The Warriors had a 4-1 lead heading into the fifth inning when the Chippewas scored seven runs.

But, the Warriors answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half, and then put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.

WMC finished the game with 14 hits, led by Alex Wagonmaker with three. Sam Liggett had a two-run home run (his second round tripper of the season) and a double. Samuel VanOrman had a triple and a single with three RBI.

Wagonmaker picked up the win with 6 2/3 innings of work, allowing six earned runs on eight hits, three walks and struck out five.

“I’m impressed at how this team never hangs its head when adversity hits, especially after an awful fifth inning tonight,” said Warriors head coach Mark Hill.

“They just go out and continue to work. That’s the sign of a resilient team. We continue to work on some small things that will help to make us better.”

West Michigan Christian improved to 9-4 overall and 7-1 in the Lakes 8.
