MUSKEGON — Western Michigan Christian’s baseball team swept a Lakes 8 Activities Conference doubleheader from Catholic Central, 6-5 and 11-4 on Thursday afternoon on their home field.

Samuel VanOrman’s bases clearing triple sent the Warriors racing out to an early lead in the third inning, and they made it 4-0 in the fifth.

But the Crusaders came storming back in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead, 5-4. The Warriors scored on a passed ball to tie the game, and then Sam Sipe drove in the winning run with a bunt single.

VanOrman picked up the win in relief. Sam Liggett went the first six innings and allowed four runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out two batters.

The Warriors had nine hits with Sipe had two to lead the way. VanOrman drove in three runs.

In the nightcap, which was shortened to five innings because of darkness, the Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

But the Crusaders came right back with three runs n the top of the third. The Warriors put the game away with a nine-run bottom half.

Sipe and Liggett paced the Warriors at the plate as each had two hits. Liggett’s were doubles. Jamie Cho drove in three runs with a double. Liggett had two RBI.

Alex Wagonmaker got the win, pitching all five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out three with no walks.

The Warriors improved to 13-5 overall and 10-1 in the conference.
