Shelby vs. Whitehall

SHELBY — Whitehall’s baseball team swept a West Michigan Conference doubleheader from Shelby, 5-1 and 8-1 on the road Monday afternoon.

Isaac VanAmberg picked up the win in the opener for the Vikings, going seven complete innings and allowed one run on three hits and striking out 11.

Kyle Stratton was the leading hitter for Whitehall, going 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored. Ryne Christiensen had one hit, an RBI and a run scored. Landon Howe had one hit and one RBI, and Jaden Brinkert had one hit and one RBI.

Hayes went the distance for the Tigers and allowed five runs on seven hits, struck out two and walked one.

Dickman, Viterna and Harvell each had a base hit and one RBI.

Taryn Hardy picked up the win on the hill for the Vikings in the nightcap, allowing one run on five hits and striking out five.

Stratton was 2-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored, while Ryan Goodrich was 2-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored. Brinkert also had a hit and one run scored, Maddox Varela had a hit, one RBI and a run scored.

L. Garcia was the losing pitcher in the nightcap, throwing six innings and allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out eight.

Hayes led the Tigers in hitting, going 2-for-3 with one run scored. Garcia, Stovall and Frye each had one hit. Stovall had one RBI.

Grand Haven vs. East Kentwood

KENTWOOD — Grand Haven’s baseball team swept an OK Conference-Red doubleheader from East Kentwood, 17-4 and 4-3 on the road Monday afternoon.

Garrett Jacobson was the winning pitcher in the opener with four innings of relief. He gave up only three hits and struck out three. Evan Duvall started the game and gave up four runs (three earned) on one hit, walked four and struck out one.

Leading hitters were Ty Sandwick who was 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, Braden Rademaker was 3-for-3 with four RBI and one run scored while Lucas Burns was 2-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored.

Jared Tithof was the winning pitcher in Game 2, going six innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits, walked four and struck out eight. Xavier Rodriguea pitched one inning of relief.

Tithof also was 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored. Duvall also was 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Grant vs. Kent City

GRANT — Kent City’s baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Grant 4-2 and 16-4 on the road Monday afternoon.

The Eagles overcame an early 2-0 in the opener, scoring two runs in the fifth inning.

Tyler Brummel was the winning pitcher, going the full seven innings and allowing two runs (one earned) one six hits, walked one and struck out five.

Leading hitters were Troy Atwood who went 2-for-3. Webb Longcore drove in two runs and scored two, while Brummel had one RBI.

Zach Flegel was the winning pitcher in the nightcap, throwing just 4 2/3 innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits with one strike out.

The Eagles scored 12 runs in the third inning in the nightcap. Josh Anderson led the hitting attack going 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Kyler Larson had three RBI.

Muskegon Catholic Central vs. White Cloud

MUSKEGON — Catholic Central’s baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with White Cloud, losing the opener 5-1 and winning the nightcap 6-5.

The Crusaders could muster only four hits in the first game.

Vince Szymanski took the loss for the Crusaders, pitching 6 2/3 innings.

Sam Convertini had two hits to pace the Crusaders at the plate.

In the second game the Crusaders scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win.

Dewey Modaff, Szymanski and Owen Lyonnais each had two hits for the Crusaders.

Modaff, Braden Gustin and Convertini had key hits in the seventh inning.

Lyonnais picked up the win in relief of his brother Jacob.
