JENISON — Grand Haven pushed the game into extra innings, but Rockford scored two runs in the top of the ninth to escape with a 3-1 victory in the MHSAA Division 1 regional semifinal game at Jenison on Saturday.

Rockford scored a run in the top of the first inning, but the Buccaneers came back with a run in the bottom of the third to tie it, 1-1 when the leadoff hitter singled, stole second, was sacrificed to third and scored on a passed ball.

After a ground out to start the bottom of the third, Skyler Covelli singled to left and was sacrificed to second by Emily Walcott. Savanna Collins then came through with a single to score Covelli and make it a 1-1 game.

Each team had six hits in the game. Covelli led the Buccaneers, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Walcott, Collins, Kendall Pahl and Veda Vargas had one hit apiece. Pahl’s hit was a double.

Regan Riemersma took the loss for the Bucs, throwing all nine innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk. Riemersma struck out six while the Bucs had three errors.

Grand Haven finishes the season with a 25-16 overall record.
