MONTAGUE — Ravenna’s girls softball team captured the MHSAA Division 3 district championship at Montague on Saturday, powering past the host school 13-3 in five innings.

The Bulldogs had reached the finals with an equally one-sided 11-0 victory over North Muskegon, while the Wildcats edged Newaygo in a high scoring affair, 14-13 in the semifinals.

Emma Gillard was in the pitcher’s circle for the Bulldogs in the championship tilt, limiting the Wildcats on just four hits, walking one and struck out four.

Addison Gillard struck out two in relief.

Leading hitters for the Bulldogs were Emma Herremans who was 3-for-3 with two home runs and a double, Addison Gillard with a home run and Emma Gillard who was 2-for-3 with a triple.

Kara Postema was 2-for-2 with two doubles, Ellie Solem also was 2-for-2 while Maddie Kilbourne and Kendra Denhof each contributed a base hit.

In the semifinal game Emma Gillard also was the winning pitcher, checking the Norsemen on just two hits while striking out eight.

She also helped lead the offensive attack, going 2-for-3 with a double. Addison Gillard also was 2-for-3 and had a triple. Postema went 2-for-2, Liberty Willick had a double and Herremans and Solem each had a hit.

Ravenna advances to the regional tournament to be held on its home field on Saturday, facing Saranac in a semifinal game. The championship game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
